Concept

Simply put, RSS is a way by which you can be notified when a website's content is updated. You can subscribe to a website by subscribing to it's "RSS Feed". You then use an RSS-enabled program to find out when your favorite webpages are updated.

Podcasting

St. Michael & All Angles now lets you listen to all of our sermons as read by our clergy during each sunday, and subscribe to an RSS feed of these audio versions; it's called podcasting.

Many different programs exist to subsribe to podcasts like ipodder. But perhaps the easiest way to subscribe to podcasts is within iTunes, the free audio-management program from apple.

Using RSS

Even if you’re unfamiliar with RSS feeds, rest easy, they are easy to use. The creator of RSS often described it as automated Web Browsing, and it's just that.

To get started, get a newsreader application (see sidebar). Some browsers also support feeds (such as Firefox and Safari 2.0). Then, copy and paste the URL of the feed into the program’s “subscribe” dialogue.
